A remastered early version of Prince’s “Forever in My Life” has been released, the latest taste of the upcoming expanded reissue of Sign O’ the Times.

“Forever in My Life” was penned in 1986, a time when the Purple One was engaged to Revolution member Susannah Melvoin. Though the two would never marry, Prince was clearly head-over-heels when he wrote the song, a sweet and vulnerable tribute to life-changing love.

"He had been up all night and he came upstairs,” Melovin recalled of the first time Prince played her “Forever in My Life.” “It was like 7:00 in the morning and he grabbed my hand and said ‘follow me’, and so I followed him downstairs. The sun was coming through the stained-glass windows and he pressed play, and that song came on and I looked at him and I got teary-eyed. And that was it. He didn’t have to say anything."

The previously unreleased “Forever In My Life (Early Vocal Studio Run-Through)” showcases the depth of Prince’s prodigious songwriting talent, as the tune powerfully resonates with just a simple backbeat, bass, piano and acoustic guitar arrangement.

“Forever in My Life” would be the closing track of 1987’s Sign O’ the Times. The album’s expanded reissue will be released on Sept. 25 and is available for preorder now. The tune was also a regular part of Prince’s setlist, memorably appearing in the Sign O’ the Times concert film.

In addition, the Prince Estate recently announced a new podcast titled Prince: The Story of Sign O' The Times. The miniseries will focus on the stories surrounding the seminal LP’s creation. Episode one is available now.
